The phenomenon of stones of a specific shape suddenly appearing in the desert like smooth glass is not new. This had stopped happening in the last few years. But recently, the sighting of such a thing has created a stir again. The police have removed the strange monolith that appeared in the desert near Las Vegas, which has been a cause of trouble for it.
The 77-inch-high and 13-inch-wide triangular structure, which reflects light like a mirror, caused a police uproar when it appeared out of nowhere last week. It had raised public concern after being installed in Nevada’s Desert National Wildlife Refuge, a hiking spot about an hour north of Sin City.
In the pictures released by the police on social media, this huge slab was seen settled in a slightly rough area. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement on social media, “Many of you have asked about the mysterious monolith seen recently north of Las Vegas.

“Yesterday afternoon, we assisted in removing the object due to public safety and environmental concerns.” Police said the object was made of reflective sheet metal folded into triangles and secured with rebar and concrete.
The force said it was illegally placed on federal land that was set up to protect bighorn sheep and is home to rare plants and desert tortoises. It will now be kept at an undisclosed location until officials figure out what to do with it.
“It is still unknown how the object arrived at its location or who may be responsible,” the force said. It comes four years after similar objects were found in a spate of mysterious installations in Belgium, Romania and the Isle of Wight. In November 2020, a similar metal monolith was found in the Mars-like landscape of Utah’s red-rock desert. Other sightings have been reported in California, New Mexico and on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.
